Valentine Parsley Pants

I sewed up these pants for E to wear to preschool on Valentine’s day, but hadn’t taken any pictures yet.  It was my first time sewing Made by Rae’s Parsley Pants, and I’m really happy with how these turned out.  They are grey corduroy, with pink corduroy heart patches for the knees, and pink top-stitching.  I went with the flat-front option, which is still super comfy, but slightly more “grown-up” looking than a full elastic waist.  For the knee patches, I cut hearts out of the pink corduroy, added some fusible interfacing to the back, and sewed them onto the pants with a zig-zag stitch.  I don’t have a lot of experience using fusible interfacing, and was a bit concerned about that choice, but they seem to be holding up well.  These are really the perfect pants for my little girl – a comfortable, roomy fit that is easy to move and play in.  Skinny pants look ridiculously cute on little legs, and I have tried getting her to wear them, but E always says they are “too small” – she much prefers a loose fit.  I already have 2 more pairs cut out and ready to sew:)

The last couple of days have been gloriously sunny and it really does feel like winter is over.  A week ago we had snow and ice on the ground, but today we poked around the garden and found the first snowdrops and crocuses blooming.  Such a welcome change!  We spent 5 hours outside this afternoon, and it just felt so good.  Winter was long, we just got over another round of colds, and everything was just feeling so difficult.  The last couple of days have been a gift, welcome relief, and a reminder that parenting really is easier when the weather is good:)

At this time of year, the water level in the lake always goes down, revealing interesting rocks, sticks, and glorious mud.  All the run-off from snow melt has made little stream rivulets cutting through the sand in interesting ways.  Add in a shovel and a toy boat and you have hours of fun.
